I absolutely love this place! My go-to dish is the Szechuan Lo Mein with all three meats. When my inner chubby girl is out to play, I start with the mini egg rolls, cream cheese wontons, and spare ribs...don't judge. Darn, I'm hungry.

I have never been to China. I do not wish to leave the boundaries of this great country in which I am encased in a hard shell of freedom and democracy. And now, I don't have to. They brought China to me. This food was what 13 year old me would call, "Da bomb!" It was fantastic. It was well-priced too. I only half half the shame I normally feel from old Chinese women servers that work at places like this. It was a great experience. Next time though, when I ask you to live up to your name and provide me with actual golden chopsticks, I'd recommend you "put up or shut up."

The best Chinese food in Metro-Detroit. I have been going for years and never had a bad experience. From the eggrolls to the egg drop soup to the chicken it is light's out- second only to Chinatown in Boston, MA.

I absolutely love love love their egg rolls. They are so cheap and the service is very good and very fast. I'm only giving this restaurant four stars because I'm selfish and wish they delivered. There General Tao chicken is amazing, and so is the orange chicken. I just wish they would deliver!!!!!!!!

Golden Chopsticks may be palatable if you are Caucasian. My wife and I are of Asian descent, but not Chinese. The white family of 3 that came in just before us was seated next to the windows and so was the white couple that came in after us. We were seated next to the bathrooms. We got up and left without ordering. Not that it should matter, but I am an Ivy League grad and former US Army officer. Of course, we will not be back to Golden Chopsticks. Looked like mediocre American-Chinese anyway.

probably what I like the most about Golden chopsticks is the building. Pretty normal-average chinese food, but some of them not taste good. It depends on the dish, which sort of giving me fear of trying new menu. I would say it is not great but not bad, just uh-OK.

This might have been the worst Chinese i've ever had. I live in Chicago now and when I come home I look so forward to Detroit Chinese. Bean sprout egg rolls, thick and delicious S&S sauce. This place didnt have any of that. The egg rolls are cabbage filled and tasteless The S&S sauce was red and im pretty sure made with ketchup The wonton soup had mushy wontons with nothing in the middle. I was so dissapointed. I'll stick with Moys or Won Kow from now on.

I love this place. Best Chinese food on the east side where, let's face it, good Chinese food is hard to come by. Great menu, great selection, decent prices. And a fair amount of food for the money. The standard dishes are all very good: the Mongolian beef, cashew chicken, etc. They even have some Thai favorites like pad thai. And the family that runs it seem very nice. I will go back every time I get that craving.

Disappointed in how the quality in ingredients is affecting this place I always considered to be higher end chinese food. Just ordered a classic almond chicken and the gravy was water, the egg rolls are mostly cabbage and instead of plum sauce I got some generic duck sauce that is tastless. Been going here since they opened. I think I'm good for along time. Wont be going back.

I've spent the last 8 summers at my marina no more than half a mile from Golden Chopsticks and have never eaten here until today. It will likely be my "go to" Chinese place moving forward. Good food, good service, good value. Fed my family for $30 and we each brought food home.

Out of fried rice?!?! I would love to give more stars, but at this time I can't. I love fried rice, but since moving to Michigan I've not found any that I would eat again. I will say that I put a lot of pressure on the Golden Chopsticks. It's been almost two years since having good fried rice. We have honestly thrown out the rice from each place we have tried so far. So here it is the last day of 2014 and after some research we chose to give it a go. We were seating quickly, and our drinks came right away. It did take a while to place our order, but they were busy so no biggie. The soup, egg rolls, and cream cheese wontons came out quick, hot, and tasted great. When our meals came the fist thing I noticed was the large heaps of white rice on each plate. I reminded the waitress that we ordered fried rice. She told me they ran out and she apologized for not coming to let us know. I'll be honest, I was disappointed. I love the fried rice, and it's 100% the reason I researched a good place. While I found it odd, there wasn't much I could do. If they are out, they are out right? A few minutes later, two tables over, I watched others getting their meals, including FRIED RICE!!!! The waitress said that it was just the combo meals they ran out of fried rice for. Huh?!?! I was so desperate to try the fried rice that had I been told there was an option that included me getting it, I would have paid the $8.50 to add fried rice!!!! Please note that on the menu it clearly states the combos include fried rice, so I wasn't asking for anything special. As a matter of fact the reason I choose a combo over the Kung pow chicken is only because it comes with fried rice. The kung pow chicken tasted fine, though not spicy at all and way too many peanuts. The cashew chicken was good, orange chicken had too much orange zest for me but still good, and the sweet and sour chicken was good as well. Their fried rice, well.... At this time, three stars, I'll update if and when we visit again.

It was really pathetic. Went last night with my girlfriend and we couldn't get out of there quickly enough. Employees were kind and tried to fix it but the food was extremely mediocre and the freshness was seriously in question. Two very standard dishes: General Tso's Chicken and Szechuan Chicken both had the same sauce and the sauce was not good to begin with. Very bland and not much attention to the food they are putting out, clearly. Sorry to rip on this place because the employees were nice but it was a mistake to go here. Save your money! Go elsewhere! Carry out from Wan Kow Chop Suey puts this place to shame.

You should go tonight. It's the best Chinese food on the eastside. It's easily one of our favorite restaurants and we've eaten all across the country. The food is very high quality and always consistent. The wait staff is super friendly and goes out of their way to make your experience great. Lastly, the value is outstanding and there's plenty of seating, so the waits are always at a minimum.

Wanted to like it because it's so close to my place, but no such luck. The chicken subgum was devoid of flavor, and the egg rolls were card-boardy. If you can't get those dishes right then there's little to no hope. Sorry! Next!

Wow these reviews are all over the place. I have been here twice now and have been very pleased and surprised both times. Most recently I had something called Triple Delight and it was great. I didn't get fried rice, just white so I cannot confirm or deny complaints about it. One of the things I have to say about Chinese food is I think people may have quite different expectations which would explain the wild variation in reviews. My huband likes egg rolls not spring rolls (the difference in our experience being that egg rolls are usually mostly bean sprouts whereas spring rolls are usually cabbage.) I had a spring roll and he had an egg roll, and although the wrappings were different the inside was the same, both cabbage. That was kind of disappointing. I had hot and sour soup with my meal and he had egg drop and both were good. He ordered sesame chicken which he was very happy with. I tasted it and it was good but I'm not a big fan of any kind of breaded chicken in chinese dishes. I'm giving it 4 stars because I did not have a single complaint on either of my two visits. We'll see if it continues to satisfy us on future visits.

Soggy chicken, fake dyed sauce Fried rice was bland, no veggies, don't even mention chicken, no flavor Pad Thai, no good, ordered medium spice, no flavor, no spice Almond chicken, equally bland with junky sauce I have no idea why other people seem to like this place, none of it was made fresh there

Disappointing. Wanted to step out of the norm and give the carry out a shot for the first time in a few years. Felt like a salt miner was preparing the food... The soup was all broth, no substance... Except salt. The entrees were better at buffet's in rural Alaska. Maybe wait another few years...

Years ago, I had a go-to Chinese restaurant right around the corner from me. When it closed down, it left a little void in my life. One of my cousins turned me onto this place and and its been my default Chinese joint for about 8 years now despite being about 30 minutes away. When I went to MCC South Campus, I had a two hour block between classes. I'd pick my cousin up and grab some lunch at Golden Chopsticks. We tried a few different plates but we both fell in love with the Mongolian chicken, which became our regular dish. It got to the point that our orders wouldn't even be taken, we were just greeted with a smile, sat at our normal booth, and our food was brought out. Perfect spice levels, more than generous servings, and perfect service. My cousin and I hadn't been there in a couple years until around Christmas, and sure enough, everything was remembered; Mongolian chicken, extra hot, hot and sour soup, and tea. I couldn't ask for anything more! Amazing place, great food, and awesome service from people who care about their customers!

Every few months when I'm in town, a few co-workers and I (plus my mom, who is one of my bosses) go out to lunch. Usually we choose Jack's, not too far from this place, but my co-worker had a bad experience last time she went there, so we chose Golden Chopsticks instead and we're glad we did. My co-worker has actually been a family friend for 27 years. She actually worked at a place nearby (around 26 years ago) with one of the ladies who works at Golden Chopsticks. They recognized each other and were very friendly. Our waitress was just as nice, but once the old co-workers recognized each other, our waitress was replaced. The food here was great. We were impressed with the complete lack of grease-their food is not at all greasy. They also don't use MSG, another big plus. I had the Vegetarian Lo Mein, which had thinner noodles than I'm used to, but was pretty good. My mom enjoyed her seafood plate and my co-worker/family friend enjoyed her cashew chicken. The only thing I didn't like that much was the fried rice-it was pretty bland, although fried rice often is. The prices here were also great. We all ate for less than $10. A positive experience, and it may just turn into our usual lunch place when I'm in town. The atmosphere is festive and we all loved the decor. It was nicely done and not at all over the top like so many places are. They have a lovely koi pond out front that is taken care of as it should be and looks great. Don't throw coins in it though, it'll kill the fish. If you want to throw a coin, they've provided two large vases of water right inside the door for you to do so.

Well i moved back to town, and had this the other day... NOT the same as it used to be... Total crap. Almond chicken was cold. Breading was thick, and barely cooked. Rice was either over, or undercooked... Just disappointing all around. So far, no good chinese joints on the east side...

To quote my husband, "That was the best Chinese food I have ever eaten." I must agree it ranks high on my list too. As the two previous poster said, the food is not greasy at all. The waitstaff was very attentive to our dining needs. The restaurant was very clean and the decor was very nicely done. I had my usual fare, garlic chicken (mild) it was just right. What I loved most about this place is the egg roll that came with the dinner plate. It wasn't the bean sprout variety, it was a spring-roll. I detest bean spouts that alone won me over. :)

another one of my favorite family owned places to eat... service is always nice and food is what I'd excpect from a chinese place that caters to american taste. simply put, for the same price as dive places (most chinese restruants are) you can tell they use better ingrediants in their food. hot and sour soup is excellent and egg rolls are made with cabbage not cheapo sprouts give it a shot...the food is always fresh, and the kitchen looks pretty clean (should be concern everyone that eats chinese food :)

I have a sentimental regard for this place, since I've take my grandma here many times. It's good for American (especially Midwestern) Chinese, not spicy at all, but also not overly greasy. Cute dining room with all the normal Chinese food place trappings, plus a fishtank. Amiable waitstaff and good, hot tea.

My husband and I returned to Golden Chopsticks after a 5+ year hiatus, unsure whether we'd still like it or not. Fortunately everything went well, and the menu contained a number of pretty enticing dishes, including interesting vegetarian options. I ordered one of the New Year's Specials, a dish of stir-fried Udon noodles with pork. It was really delicious; the noodles had a great texture and the pork was tasty, so I was really happy with my choice. My husband had the Sizzling Chicken, which came with a vegetable mixture; it was good but not as spicy as he prefers. The soups we ordered with our meal (hot & sour and wonton) were both good but not mind-blowing; the wonton soup for instance had a nice clear broth with some scallions and tasty wonton but nothing else to liven it up. The egg rolls were decent but nothing special. Service here is brisk and attentive and the prices are quite reasonable. In between the vegetable dishes and the brown rice option, they seem to be interested in offering more healthful selections than the standard Michigan Chinese restaurant. Our main complaint is that the overall flavor profile is a little toward the bland and sweet, in keeping with most Midwestern takes on Chinese food. In a metropolitan area with a of dearth of great Chinese food, Golden Chopsticks is a pretty good option.

Nice place with a great menu. The service is good and fast. This is one of those places that the food does not taste all the same. The Green Beans in Black bean sauce one of a kind. The hot and sour soup it very good. Old style cooks if you like hot and spicy you will be very happy. This place is good for the whole family.

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

This is the place for Chinese food! Everything I've had here is amazing! The hot n sour soup is out of this world. Really, you can't go wrong here. Everyone is very friendly and service is very good.

We missed Mrs Saunders today, but always a good time here.
